Terminal Island Mosaic Poster
This Furusato: Home Sweet Home poster was
produced in partnership with The Terminal Islanders club
with a grant from the California Civil Liberties Public
Education Program (CCLPEP). The images are from the
Terminal Island community past and present.
Thousands of family photos of the early 1900s fishing
village were collected and digitized through through
present-day picnics and community gatherings. In
addition, many historical photos were discovered at the
San Pedro Bay Historical Society and scanned. In the
end, 1,290 images were used in the final poster.
The photos are arranged to form the Japanese
characters (or Kanji) for "Furusato", which means "Home
Sweet Home." The characters were drawn by Yukio
Tatsumi, president of the Terminal Islanders club. |
